Please inspect the shipping container for obvious damage. The units are shipped inside a well protected box, but this will not prevent some big elephant from crushing the box if he steps on it. Once you have determined that the unit survived the shipping process the rest is fairly simple.
Remove the unit from the shipping box. Unlock and open the door to the unit. Remove any extra packing and protective material located inside the enclosure. Confirm that all plug in boards are installed and have not come loose during shipping (this is very unlikely unless the screws holding the boards have become loose in transit).
Select the area in which the unit is to be mounted and securely fasten the unit to a sturdy wall or pole as conditions dictate. Run a 115 volt A/C line to a duplex outlet (furnished by others). This outlet should be near the ID-4 unit. This duplex outlet will be used to provide an 115 volt A/C source for the transformer which will provide low voltage A/C current to trickle charge the standby batteries.
Install the telephone service and run the telephone wires into the enclosure and attach the tip and ring (typically red and green) to appropriate telephone terminal jack (RJ-11). From here connect the plug in cord from the RJ-11 jack to the female telephone receptacle on the small box with a black knob in the center that is marked "local" and "line". Plug the connector into the "line" side of the dual connector.
Connect a pair of 18 gauge wires from the 16 Volt A/C transformer to the A/C terminals of the power supply card in the ID-4 unit. Plug the transformer into the 115 volt A/C duplex receptacle. Look at the various ICs and touch to confirm that none of these chips are running hot, this is a precautionary test as it is unlikely that any will be hot.
PLUG IN the 2 PIN battery CONNECTOR:
Confirm that the 2 pin battery connector is plugged in.
Locate the female Amp connector that is attached to a
black and a red wire. This AMP connector originates from
the 4.8 Volt battery and terminates into an AMP two pin
connector.. The connector will plug in only in one
place on the board. Plug in the Amp connector to the male
counterpart on the ID-4 MAIN BOARD. (Please refer to
drawing 1 id-4, figure 5).
Confirm that the white 4 pin plug with the red, white, and black wire 4 pin connector (drawing 1 id-4, figure 6) is securely in place in the respective 4 pin connector
Connect the battery leads to the battery which will supply standby power to the unit during times of power failure. The black wire goes to the NEGATIVE side and the RED wire goes to the POSITIVE side of the battery.
When the A/C transformer and battery are connected, confirm that the three LED's on the main board are likewise illuminated. The lower board has 3 LED's (drawing 1 ID-4, figure 12). The three LED's that are red green and yellow should all be illuminated now.
The system is now fully powered and ready to program. Please refer to the programming information booklet for further details on setting up the ID-4 system.
STARTUP AND INITIAL SETUP VALUES
For your convenience in getting started in the setup process, there is a menu which has some preset values and conditions which will allow the system to run initially. These values may be loaded by depressing the MENU SWITCH (drawing 3 ID-8, figure 7). This will cause the MAIN MENU PROMPT to appear in the LCD display window (drawing 1 ID-8, figure 8). By selecting {3} at the Main Menu prompt and then entering the digit {5} at the next LCD display the following preset values are installed.
The preset default values are as follows:
Telephone Sequence 1 is set to dial telephone number 1 and 2, then skip 3 thru 8.
Telephone Sequence 2 is set to dial telephone number 1 and 2, then skip 3 thru 8.
Time delays for the individual channels are as follows: a. Channel 1 = 10 b. Channel 2 = 11 c. Channel 3 = 12 d. Channel 4 = 13 e. Channel 5 = 14 - not used f. Channel 6 = 15 - not used g. Channel 7 = 16 - not used h. Channel 8 = 17 - not used
Each channel has an independent Second or Minute selection. Channels 1 and 2 are set up for seconds. Channels 3 and 4 are set up for minutes.
The telephone is set at 4 rings before hang-up.
The time between calls is set at a relative number of 4 (the range is 2-8).
The call back timer is set at 4 minutes (this is unusually short in the real world but is good for testing the system).
All contacts are set for Normally Open (N/O).
Recap: To install the above values enter the Main Menu and select {3}. At the next prompt do not enter either the {*} or the {#} but enter {5}. The data will be automatically installed. These values may be changed later if required. Each value is independent and can be changed at any time.
TO ACCESS THE TELEPHONE NUMBER OF H & R ELECTRONICS, INC.
Should you forget the telephone number of H & R ELECTRONICS, INC., the retrieval of the number is simple. At the Main Menu select {3} and at the next prompt enter {4}. This will display the Toll Free number for service or questions.
ASSIGNMENT OF INDIVIDUAL ID CODES
Please assign each individual whose telephone number is on the dialing list a two digit individual ID code which will be used in communication with the Intelligent Dialer. Each person will have a unique two digit ID code assigned. example: John - "13", Bill - "14", etc.
REMOTE ACCESS OF THE SYSTEM
Remote access is accomplished two ways.
You may dial the telephone number assigned to the unit and enter the individual ID code plus the access digit "3". At the next prompt enter the 4 digit Access Code for your unit. example: Dial the telephone number assigned to the system. The system will answer the telephone, identify itself and request your ID code and response. Wait five seconds after the message and enter "XX3" (XX is any two digit pair of numbers). Using remote access, you have up to fifteen seconds to input information. If the system receives no response, it will automatically hang-up. The next response from the system will be the same statement, "Please enter your ID code and response". At this prompt, wait five seconds and enter the four digit access code. When this procedure is correctly done, the system will announce that you are at the main menu. From this point, you may proceed as if you were at the site location. You will need to understand how the system works to correctly input information remotely. Please refer to the manual.
When the Intelligent Dialer calls the telephone numbers on the dialing list, each called party has an opportunity to communicate with the system. If the system initiates the call, the access code is the individual ID code plus the access digit "7". example: "147" is ID code "14" and the access digit "7". This will start the access process. The voice announcement will request your ID code and response. Wait five seconds after the message and enter "147". The next response from the system will be the same statement, "Please enter your ID code and response". At this prompt, wait five seconds and enter the four digit access code. When this procedure is correctly done, the system will announce that you are at the main menu. From this point, you may proceed as if you were at the site location. You will need to understand how the system works to correctly input information remotely. Please refer to the manual.
The Access Code for this unit is _____________. The serial number is ______________.
You may change this access code providing you have the original or current access code. Make sure that you record the new access code in a safe place because it will be impossible to retrieve this code if lost. The factory maintains a master code to access the system in emergencies.
