NOTE: IT IS NECESSARY TO READ THE ENTIRE INSTRUCTION MANUAL BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO USE THE QUICK MENU. THE QUICK MENU IS DESIGNED TO BE USED BY SOMEONE WHO IS REASONABLY FAMILIAR WITH THE SD-8 SYSTEM.
Please note that all page numbers and references are made to a printed out copy of the OEM Manual shipped with each unit and do not reflect the page on which it might be printed when printing from WEB screen.
If you are in the run mode, to gain entrance to the menu mode, slide the MENU/RUN switch (SW-3) to the left.
While in the Menu mode you may return to the Main menu starting position at any time by sliding the switch marked SW-3 to the right. If in the Main Menu via a telephone call (either you call the SD-8 or the SD-8 called you) to exit enter a [#].
The prompts listed in section 3 are already installed on the system. Should you desire to change these prompts, which is not recommended, see procedure at the end of quick menu.

| Enter [8] reset the A/C fail flag | Clear A/C fail | |
| Enter [9] set ON acknowledge light reset. Set the call back delay in effect | call back timer | clear A/C flag, set amber LED on, set failsafe timer |
Example: [7] [9] turns on amber light "A", and places the system in a fail safe mode, but does not reset the values for variables. This will cause the system not to dial out for the period of time set in the fail safe timer. Default is 4 minutes.
A typical fail safe value may be 30 - 90 minutes. To reset the system to the "customer programmed values", slide the slide switch to the run (right) side and depress the red reset button. This will clear the fail safe light.
TIPS:
If you are calling into the SD-8 from a touch tone telephone to initiate a hang-up while at the Main Menu depress the [#] key. This will cause the SD-8 to hang up and resume normal run operation.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RESET THE SD-8 WHILE THE UNIT IS DIALING OUT A TELEPHONE NUMBER. This will lock up the SD-8 on a tone (whatever tone was being dialed when you depressed the reset button). Should you do this and are now looking for a way out, there are two ways:
1. Disconnect all power to the unit and switch the battery switch off. Restore power and hit the reset button. Be sure to switch the battery switch back to the "ON" position. Use the next method and you will only have to trip one of the channels. The unit will run with the tone in progress but it is annoying if you are nearby the speaker for a long time.
2. Trip a channel which is connected to the SD-8. This will cause the unit to begin calling out. You may terminate the call by depressing the reset button. But do not depress the reset button while the SD-8 is calling out or you will generate the same problem again.
Page 8 - DELAY BEFORE HANG-UP ON NO RESPONSE
The SD-8 has an adjustable timer which will delay the time period before the unit hang-up after a no response to the request for a "response." This delay is set at "02" as standard. One count equals approximately 4 seconds. Thus, a count of 04 equals 36 seconds because (9 x 4=36). For some applications it may be desirous the increase the time delay before hang-up.
To change the time delay after response, go to the Main menu, select [8], then enter [*], then the first digit, then the second digit. The SD-8 will automatically return to Main Menu mode if done properly.
EXAMPLE: [7], PAUSE [8], [0], [4] This will give a 16 second response time.
Factory use: ANS1NO = $99
RESPONSES RECOGNIZED BY THE SD-8
When the SD-8 CALLS YOU and all messages have been delivered, the SD-8 will say "Please enter your ID code and response," allow 5 seconds, then enter one of the following 3 options:
OPTIONS WHEN THE SD-8 CALLS YOU
111
This response will cause the message to be repeated to the called party.
333
This response is the first response required to access the MAIN MENU and is followed by entering the 4 digit access code at the next prompt which says "Please enter your ID code and acknowledgment." Works on call in or call out.
999
This response is the "ACKNOWLEDGE." This will place the system in a fail safe time period during which no additional alarm calls will be placed until the fail-safe time has expired.
When YOU CALL the SD-8 and it answers, when the SD-8 says "Please enter your ID code and response." Wait 5 seconds, then enter one of the 4 following options. The SD-8 will say again "Please enter your ID code and response," then enter the 4 digit access code (______).
OPTIONS WHEN YOU CALL THE SD-8
222
This response will allow the status of the system to be replayed to the called party; if no alarms are present then the SD-8 will say "THERE ARE NO ACTIVE ALARMS AT THIS TIME."
333
This response is the first response required to access the MAIN MENU and is followed by entering the 4 digit access code at the next prompt which says "Please enter your ID code and acknowledgment." Works on call in or on SD-8 call out.
666
This response is the first step in the REMOTE SET ACKNOWLEDGE The calling party will next enter the 4 digit access code and the system will automatically ACKNOWLEDGE THE SD-8. This is equivalent to entering 999 when the SD-8 calls any party. Allows for remote acknowledge at any time.
777
This response followed by the 4 digit access code will automatically CLEAR THE ACKNOWLEDGE AND RESET THE SYSTEM TO DEFAULT VALUES. This is equivalent to a REMOTE RESET.
HOW TO RECORD THE REPLY PROMPTS ON CHIP #2 (See Diagram ____)
CAUTION: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS WHILE REPROGRAMMING THE VOICE PROMPTS. IT IS NOT RECOMMENCED THAT YOU ATTEMPT TO CHANGE VOICE PROMPTS UNLESS YOU HAVE BECOME VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE SD-8 UNIT.
All prompts and alarms messages must be entered in sequence and all according to the data list. The length each message is unimportant providing the entire list is not longer than 90 seconds. The message will contain all of the voice information between the time switch #1 is depressed and switch #2 is depressed. In a similar manner the recorded alarm information is recording between the time that the star key is depressed the first time and the time the star key is depressed the second time. The total time for the alarm message is 90 seconds. The same time is available for the reply prompts.
